Unfortunate: 15 youths die prematurely in Plateau

Perhaps you might have a reason to thank God today.

About fifteen children between the ages of 12 and 16 were crushed to death yesterday in Barkin-Ladi, Plateau state by a commercial vehicle carrying maize to a nearby market, nine others were hospitalized.

The children were members of the Boys and Girls brigade of about three churches in the local government headquarters who were on an early morning routine exercise when the incident happened.

Reports show that the youths usually gather for exercise by jogging to and from nearby villages, Yesterday was unlucky as a vehicle carrying maize lost control and ran into the children numbering about 40 killing 15 instantly, and injuring about nine others. The bodies of the deceased and injured were taken to a nearby health centre for first aid treatment before they were transferred to the plateau specialist hospital in Jos.
