The issue of Siamese twins is not
new to a common Nigerian, but no one expects to see it or have it happen in his
or her vicinity. This explains the surprise of Mr Andrew that faithful Thursday
(1st August) morning when he was called upon by Saint Daniels
hospital authority to make himself available at the maternity ward where his wife
Mrs Ene Musa Andrew had just given birth to a Siamese twin through caesarean
operation.
“There has never been any trace
of this unfortunate and mysterious incident in either my family or my wife’s
lineage. I have only read or seen it happening in the western world as reported
in newspapers and televisions, but never imagined it was coming to my domain…”
those were the words of Mr Musa Andrew a police corporal and the father of the
twins.
Dr M.O. Daniel, The Proprietor of
Saint Daniels Hospital Otukpo disclosed that the Siamese twin have four hands,
three legs, two heads, two chests, two noses and possess the same pelvic girdle
but joined together at the abdominal region with a shared female organ, with
one having a healthy nutrient of surviving than the other. He therefore called
upon the government, philanthropists, well-wishers, non-governmental
organizations, motherless baby homes, Pastors, Imams and all well-meaning
Nigerians to help the parents with the needed fund for an advanced operation at
UNTH Enugu, National Hospital Abuja, Indian or South-African Hospitals, where
urgent and successful surgery could be carried out on the Siamese twins.
