ASUU Strike: the story continues!


While the minister of education hopes the strike would soon be called off, the minister of finance says government has no resources to meet ASUU's demands and chairman Needs Implementation Committee says some progress has been made as the new episode of ASUU Strike unfolds.

The minister of education, professor Ruqayyatu Rufa'i on Monday while speaking at the mid-term review meeting of the four-year strategic plan of her ministry disclosed her hopes that the meeting between ASUU and FG committee yesterday would go a long way in resolving the crisis.

This is coming even as minister of finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala said earlier yesterday that government has no resources to meet ASUU's demands. Speaking in Minna at the annual National Council on Finance and Economic Development meeting, the minister said "At present ASUU wants N92 billion in extra allowances when resources are not there and when we are working to integrate past increase in pension..." she Declared that if government continues to pay lecturers salaries and allowances it would be impossible to provide infrastructure in the universities.

Also Governor Gabriel Suswan chairman of University Needs Implementation Committee after a 3 hour meeting between ASUU and government team revealed that some progress has been made, but another meeting has bed scheduled for next Monday where he hopes that some decision would be reached.

With the yearning Nigerian students and general public yet to comprehend the progress made and decisions to be made ASUU strike continues through its 7th week.
