Court confirms Former Italian Prime Minister‘s jail term

Can Nigeria borrow a leaf from Italy whose highest court upheld former PM Silvio Berlusconi’s prison sentence for tax evasion?

The former PM was sentenced to four years in prison at the end of a 3 day trial by Rome’s Court of Cassation in October last year, although it was automatically reduced to one year under the 2006 pardon law.

The sentence is final and cannot be appealed against even though the 76 year old is unlikely to go to jail because of his age. Berlusconi is likely to serve house arrest or carry out community service.
