The 24 day old industrial action
continues even as ASUU and FG burst students' bubble yesterday, but there are
signs that the strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) may be
called off next week.
This is coming as chairman of the
Needs Assessment Implementation Committee of the Federal Government (FG) and
Governor of Benue state Mr Gabriel Suswan hints that ASUU and FG have reached
agreement on all controversial issues that lead to the strike except two.
The two outstanding issues are
the Earned Allowance of lecturers and the intervention for Federal
universities. The Benue state governor said that he believed that ASUU would
call of strike after his committee would have reached agreement on all issues
by next week. He added that the Secretary to the Government of the Federation
will meet ASUU leadership by next Monday on the issue of earned allowance.
Nigerian Students remain
optimistic as the two parties ASUU and FG decide the faith of Nigeria’s future
leaders
we continue to keep our fingers crossed and hoping for the best. This strike really needs to be called off. Good work bro
